Catching Up a Bit

If you were to imbibe the rotgut in several establishments over the course of the evening, traveling to each on foot, it could be construed as a Pub Crawl. These have become social networking standards for business promotion and even charity fund raising in recent years (Facebook seems brings one to my attention about twice a month), but have a history that dates back to the 19th century.

So if you hop on a bike a ride from gym to yoga center to gym to martial arts center to running store (ironically ending up at a fancy bar and lounge), ya could call it a Fit Crawl. And Fit Crawl it was, for about 5 dozen people or so who decided to test a sample of Sacramento’s fitness wares. Bodytribe welcomed several groups of biker-Crawlers last Saturday with a quick 20 minute blast of what we do (and no, I couldn’t sum it up in 20 minutes, as the first group who came through learned), and one thing became quickly apparent:

WE wanted to go on the crawl too!

It looked like fun! But alas, to serve out a cliff-noted cup of all that is Bodytribe… that was our mission (which we apparently failed at for at least one person. When’s the last time YOU’VE been called a pompous ass by a stranger?).

So in the spirit of trying to sum up a great deal of info in a short period of time, Here’s a quick pictorial of some of the recent events at Bodytribe…

Max Force Development workshop, April 24th:

After explaining the love we need to give to max force development on a regular, planned basis, we decided to drive home the glorious feeling of gravity’s battle through a Turkish Get Up 1 rep max.

So I have to lift her.

Bent Press and More workshop, May 8th.

Kicking off our Odd Lifts series was the Bent Press, perhaps the king of the odd lifts. Here’s some of the results…

Stones and Kegs workshop, May 24th.

Last Saturday before the Fit Crawl, we played with some odd objects. Since our lightest stone is almost 200 pounds, we made some lighter faux-stones using fit balls and water. They’re heavy, big and hard to handle, even at a third of the weight of our cement stone. Ranging in weights from about 45 pounds to over 80 pounds, the wobbly, girthy, squishy ‘stones’ were tough to handle.

Carry ‘em, and walk with ‘em about 200 feet. Yeah, they look all light and soft, but they’re bulky, heavy and shifty, as Kolby, Danielle and Paige will tell you.

We also threw some kegs around a bit.

This weekend at the Tribe…

This Saturday’s Tune Up: Macebell Swinging
. There’s a reason swinging long heavy objects has been around for several hundred years in some parts of the world. Be ready for a unique and exciting challenge. 10-noon. $10 for members, $20 for everyone else.

Movie Night and potluck: Happy Gilmore. A good night to turn the brain off and enjoy some silver screen silliness. 7:00 pm.

Tonight (Thursday), Bodytribe member Ryan Lindow will be guest DJ at Momo Lounge opening for Poirier from Montreal. The show starts around 9 and Ryan will be spinning around 11.

Coming real soon….

Argh. Read that blog, and the comments, and I don’t know how someone could get it so wrong…

Well said, Victor. The one bright and shiny moment (however ironic) was that she really enjoyed the things she DID at Bodytribe. Her mind may have been stuck on a sentence unfortunately taken completely out of context, but her body was having a blast.

[Somehow Victor's comment vanished(?!). It did mention the ironies of her post. I was going to edit some of it anyway though, since I'm going to suggest that we be prepared as a tribe to support the effort and journey, even if we might find the motivation suspect and we not entirely agree with the outcome. Yup, I might be a pompous ass, but she did admit to enjoying the workout, so maybe, just maybe, she'll attempt something similar again in the future - chip]

I am so sorry I missed the Fit Crawl! Are there plans to repeat?

  4. Hi Cheree. According to the Wellness Task Force who ran the event, they’re thinking or running it annually now. For an inaugural event, it was run very well, and did look like a darn good time.
