It’s Deadlift Friday, but I don’t get to join you kids today because I’m in a recording studio with the band Sliver Darlings being their drum whore for the afternoon/evening. We’re having fun, but i’ve had waaay to many homemade brownies to consider this a healthy escapade.
Combo Catch of the Day: KITCHEN SINK
I celebrated California’s first day of legal gay marriage by attending the birthday bash of an early influence of mine, Jello Biafra. Under the influence of good friend Ani Kyd and her Canadian Posse (Rob and Jo Jo), I had some experiences that only taking acid when I was a young teenager could prepare me for.

Now I’ve never seen Jello sing live, even though his lyrics were a fairly large part of my younger education (I even quote him in my book). But it was actually sitting in the VIP section next to his MOM that truly popped a few of my brain cells.

Currently I’m in the recording booth of The Hanger, the recording studio by the railroad tracks which comes complete with a quarter pipe next to my drum set in case I feel like busting a quick fakie pivot backside bigspin as soon as I put my sticks down (a boy can dream).

Next week the training returns hardcore, and I’ll document it better, I promise.

Singing along is hard when he keeps revising the words, but the updated lyrics he sung on Tuesday were, of course, great.
The first actual big-city punk rock show I ever saw was DKs, TSOL, and I believe Toxic Reasons at the Elite Club….
The most fun was The Pink Twinkies, or DK in downtown Walnut Creek…Jello would remember…

Sounds like way more fun to me than deadlift day! The quarter pipe by the drum set put it over the top for me. Thanks for the skaters wet dream pick at the bottom.
In one of the ‘lounge rooms,’ where I don’t think any recording happens, but band folks might hang out in, there is a complete half-pipe. There are also a couple of skateboards hanging around, but I don’t dare try it in the middle of a recording session.
Hey that skate park is Meanwhile 2! I used to skate round there – it’s underneath the Westway flyover in London. It is famous for its gap and they often hold gap jams there.
Here it is in all its glory: http://www.caughtinthecrossfire.com/skate/features/7030. I was at the gap jam in 2007 – ace day!
