Some stuff we’ve been playing with this week:
Bodytriber Zac was playing around with a spine combo on Wednesday that is both exhausting and athletic. Buelers and Turkish get ups (with Windmills at the top, I believe), together like a sweaty lesbian porno (Zac, do your students ever read this blog?). I don’t know his set and rep scheme, but, as we always say, be creative.

Kettlebells and Clubs
Kettlebells and Clubs this weekend!! Although we’ll review some basics, let’s play with some ideas not seen at just any workshop.
Here be a new leverage club video and a couple groovy club challenges here as well. Now get yer butt here on Saturday at 11 for more fun!

Ceclilia Tom waxes philosophic about freedom, human rights and the Olympic Torch and dedicates her workout (consisting of a torch press swing) to the struggles of the Tibetan people. As a believer in the Ritual of a workout, this takes my concept of the Daily Mantra during a training session a bit further. Her example is also a shining example of how I’m starting to understand (and preach) the concept of personal empowerment as a stepping stone towards the strengthening of the Tribe, which past posts of mine have started defining as simply a more personal word for society or culture.

Our buddy Kat decided to pontificate about another ‘Tribe’ that I poked a little fun at the other day. Take a look and then answer this homework question:
Find the similarities between China’s Government and the Fundamental Latter Day Saints.
–
Eric Hoffer would say there’s one big one. Sure, the trimmings are different, but at the core of both is a greedy ideal meant to keep a very small population of people in control over the majority. That doesn’t fall under my definition of a successful Tribe, which has three main tenets:
Communication.
Equality.
Sustainability.
So just wait until I’m king. Things will change.
My Texas connection, Ken O’Neill, knows a thing or two about Tribe. His deep-rooted Buddhist nature is supported and complimented by his love of physical culture. His website has some good info, but talking to him in person is where the fun is at. Ken, I’ll be sure to stop by again next year when I’m in Austin!

Eh, I doubt any of them know about it, and if they did, they’re too wrapped up in their own confused teenage lives to spend too much time invading my privacy…
But yeah, I tried some overhead squats after all that too. I think I’ll try throwing them in the mix once I become a little more proficient with all the movements. Wednesday was largely about learning the movements. Side note: TGUs with a barbell = awesomeness.
And a thought on Buelers. Remember “Dan’s Weird Single-Handed Deadlifts?” Seems like Buelers do that job + some more.
